Always an eye-opener when they do a recap of the music stars who have winked out in the past year. The Godfather of Soul.
God speed, James Brown.

Spur-of-the-moment title - got a stick in your hand, you reach out and tap - tap - - - tap a rhythm. There's your title. Music business, song title, award ceremony. Enough. The Grammys is the Super Bowl is the All Star Game. Nothing matters but the performance.

Here's a heartfelt James Brown eulogy from our favorite DJ, Motion Potion (our man from San Fran who rocked the Bald Head Island beachside deck):
PRAYERS: JAMES BROWN Stillborn in a backcountry brothel, no American has come from less and risen as high as the Godfather of Soul. The man who invented soul (gospel music with secular material), funk, disco, and rap is also released more records than any other person IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE. JB created many a riot, and was powerful enough a personality to stop riots as he did in Boston after MLK was assassinated. A firm believer in the end for African Americans to change the US through acquisition and control of their industries; Brown was a certain precursor to cross-market empire-builders like P-Diddy, Ice Cube, and Jay-Z. And for more than 40 years, he never lost an inch of quality, excitement, and passion in his live show. Just last summer, I was honored to help present his last SF show at Festival of the Golden Gate, and he put on the best performance I had ever seen from him; a 75 minute FUNK meltdown that CHASED THE FOG AWAY! And while he did ALL of this, I'm APPALLED at the lack of respect, understanding and recognition he has received in the past few weeks. As the media has focused on the life of a mediocre statesmen who happened to become a mediocre President, they have largely ignored the life of THE FUNK PRESIDENT; perhaps, along with Muhammad Ali, Caesar Chavez and Martin Luther King one of the most important figures in the civil rights progression of American history. Well HERE he gets his due. JB, there was never one like you and there will never be another. Our prayers for you and yours, and we promise to keep your dream alive, and keep them dancing.
