I'm slowing down.

What a weak-ass white boy I am! Haven't had that much to drink - fingers getting mo slowly slow.
Comment from a staff member here at Grammy Blab HQ - "You're Beautiful" isn't any better than the songs we make up on the spot for our dogs and cats. Sorrry, Mr. Blunt.
How many songs get published each year? Jay? Do you have any figures on that?
They be way toutin' the Chili Peppers, yo. I said it before, didn't I? Anthony Keidis has only a passing familiarity with the notion of 'singing in key'. Maybe I'm just too 18th, 19th, 20th, 21st century.

Just back from Vietnamese Noodle soup with the fam at 43rd & Spruce, just can't beat noodle soup in the belly on a winters night, and dinner out for 5 @ $62, tip included - when Michael reminds me the Grammy's are on, so I tune in for 5, 10 minutes. KAte is working in the room and asks if I can't mute it - mute the Grammy's, imagine that - the deaf man watching the Grammy’s...

My musical world, like my whole world has been expanding recently - listening to American Roots with real attention - James gave me an iPod for Christmas and I'm 2/3rds up to speed, listening to Norah Jones doing I think it's going to rain today from Higher Ground, listening to Thelonius Monk, Live in Italy, listening to Concrete Schoolyard by the Jurassic 5, listening to Chopin as I walk the streets of Philly.

Remembering listening to the Stones to Their Satanic Majesties Request way, way back, at 3 AM, with Michael in West Philly

Hey Michael, there is a poster from the Trauma, featuring Lothar and the Hand People hanging on the wall of a Hideaway Records on Germantown Avenue in Chestnut Hill...

So when I saw Michael’s note that he was blogging out the Grammy's - I turned them on. Just in time for the tribute to Bob Wills and Don Henley ... and with my widening appreciation I hung in there - odd as it was when they showed black & white footage of ol' Bob Wills himself singing and fiddling up above Carrie Underwood as she, gracefully, sang us San Antonio Rose – and watched, fascinated, as Rascal Flatts, what can I say, they are very straightforward; a little odd, 3 guitars and an air-guitar; did Hotel California – and then Carrie, change of dress, delivered Desperado

Back at the computer, I see that Bob Wills did a version of You are my Sunshine – and old favorite of Michael’s – and you can get his music now on Bear Family records.

That Carrie Underwood came up through American Idol – who knew?

And that Ella Fitzgerald, Perry Como, Henry Mancini, and Domenico Modungo cleaned up at the 1st Grammy Awards in 1958 – which means the Grammy’s beat the Super Bowl out the gate by 8 years.

A tip of the hat to MQM!

Thanks, my buddy. I'l email you a link to a Lothar & THe Hand People tune that Joe Duffy sent me. Thanks for the news about hte Grammys being older than the Super Bowl. (I guess I could've done a little math on that myself) Damn - there is so much good music out there! Everyone should check out the Garageband link on the main page - you might find your way to something you really like that isn't being brough to you by Chevrolet®. :0)
