A Favorite Comment . . .

. . . from last year . . .
Franny was commenting on Amy Winehouse's multiple wins - no, on her PERFORMANCE:

Okay, So it was my Birthday, and I didn't get to see the Grammy's live. I went on their site and then youtube and watched Amy's performance to see what a hot mess looks like. I couldn't help drawing the comparison to Edith Piaf or even Billie Holiday. She was jumped up on something but reaching from a place I rarely go. I enjoyed her, but it made me a little nervous. Kind of the way I used to get when I watched Jimi Hendrix. All raw ...over sensitive like after the fact.

Album of the Year

Pee WEe Herman sez it's Raising Sand.

AOTY???

I'd be happy for it to go to Raising Sand!

A couple of old Tweed amps

T Bone is too much.

Raise some Sand!

They're cool. All of them. Restraint is where it's at.

Hey, West Coasters . . .

. . . no surprises. I mean, what - they'll really surprise us?

That Bo D thing

They really didn't give that jam enough time to develop. Very interesting bunch of players - had I been one of them I'd be supremely frustrated.

must ... stay ... awake

Li'l Wayne

Got Strength! Lifted that dude right up.

Allen Toussaint

Fabi says " He wrote everything"

Allen Toussaint! Now We Talking!

fran's geetar students will do their part in June

striped monster cat sez hello

flower indicates she might say hello, if she feels you have earned it

The Bo Diddley thing

This is one of the things that I usually wait for - players playing for each other.

bo didley was a gun slinger!

yes he was

Check out the dead folks . . .

. . . getting the bum's rush. Late - short on time they're doubling up on the screen time for these folks.

this is the section where they cut out the applause,

I See Dead People

A horse of a different Neil

He's always been cool. And now I'm getting hotwing mess on the keys.

Sweet Caroline!

Neil could easily play a judge on Law and Order.

I'm looking forward to . . .

Robt and Alison. That album was a gem.

Jamie Foxx is Waaaaaay Talented

He is just cool. Always.

if i was wearing undies....

He looks permanently startled.

Neil Portnoy - moving to Higher Ground.

Obama has Grammys????
I knew he was cool - but, Damn!
This dude should have had his pants hemmed.

union cellists?

that's why the standing O yes? for the cellists?

This is my first T.I. exposure.

What a change-up - Justin Timberlake lends gravitas/cred to new performers. The cellos help, too.

how the hat stays on?

a mystery
That child just looks silly in that hat. Just plain silly.

Sam Jackson

Telling me that the Grammys is somewhere between a frat party and the Oscars.

franny's mac crapped out

she has been having troubles with her machine

NOW This Is Real Monkey Business!

I should've joined you all up years ago. Much more fun - and less work for Mother, too.

I think

I believe I would sound pretty good too if I had 1700 backup drums. And tubas. God, you have got to have the tubas.

Is the Dewar's kicking in?

. . . or am I digging Radiohead? I think I'm digging Radiohead.
It is VERY HARD to do anything that is almost like different anymore.
I believe I have been empowered. Is it so???

Suk-ling Pig, Back Online.

hmmm. fleetwood mac used usc marhing band also, no?

herm. this is complicated

i am still a primitive, it is clear

Adele

She's got a powerhouse of a voice, eh?
The Sugerbowls (fine enough) didn't add to her perf. IMO

I have the power

I am SPM! and I has the powah!

I'm jammed up.

Tried a post that wouldn't post. About the INVITES I sent you all. Check your email.

Okay - Paul is in his 60's

None of us are allowed to complain about being old now.
Just remembered that when I type - I miss the performances. And the Grammys is nothing without the performances.

Actors lend Glam

Maybe what they're doing at SXSW is taking the place of what the Grammys used to do. I pledge that I'll get down there someday.
She intros Paul. Dave Grohl on drums?

Uh, Everybody's TV didn't go B&W did it?

Ours does this every once in a while. Very 1950's.
M.I.A+ and Kanye and ? and ?
I'm sooooo clueless.

Herbie!

This was his house last year. Award for ROTY now . . . COOOOOL! Raising Sand!!

Kenny Chesney?

Poet? Pirate? Hat Guy? Glenn mentions that clueless feeling - I've got plenty of that. Not too aware of this guy - familiar name, competent songmeistering . . . I dunno.

Adele

I saw a Sixty Minutes thing about her - she's very sweet and seems uneffected. And Un-Affected.

BNA

goes to Adele. She's cool. Only 4 years old, too.

Kan-Yay

. . . and who's she? I am so clueless . . .

I kissed a Blog

Hey - this girl understands Show-Biz.

The FIX

. . . was to send invites to you all to be Team members in this thing so that the Posts can fly much more crazily fast.
PS - check Ellen's comment " . . . I kissed a Dog, and I liked it"

This is kind of like playing tennis . . .

. . . and I SUCK at tennis. Glad to have you madcaps whacking away here!

Cripples

. . . kind of take away from the Gravitas of this Awards show.

Might be kind of fixed.

And Here's Stevie lending his Massive Cred to these youngsters!

I think I can fix this.

I'll add anyone who wants to help me tear this up - I think I can add partners/team members on the log-in page. I'll check on that now while Jennifer Hudson is singing.

Argh -

Franny is right - I'm too slow. Here's Robert and Alison. Great.

Comments

Some folks got pissed/frustrated last year when trying to post comments - if you aren't a Gmail/Blogger person, choose
0 NAME/URL and the URL thing is optional. Ka-Peesh? Cool.

Okay - Kid Rock . . .

. . . is making the Staples Center feel a teeny bit like a bar. That's cool - but I can't remember any of his music.

Kid Rock

Hmmmm . . . kind of cool that there was a mugshot of him up on the big screen behind the stage.

Harmony

Al dropped down to a low harmony part - that's why he's Al Green and I'm a geek sitting here watching him.

Okay

I guess I also like it when people who win get all excited, too, and thank everyone and Paul McCartney.

C U's Chick guitarist

Is shredding quite nicely on that PRS.

If I don't Post . . .

. . . it might be that the performance is too riveting. Or totally un-postworthy.
Where'd Carrie Underwood come from?

The MTV Music News blog person . . .

. .. was wondering how they'd get all the performances in. CP just did a .25 version of their hit. That's how.

Cold2

Short conversation with Glenn McBrearty yesterday about how these guys are filling in behind the envelope pushing (making?) U2.
They're okay, I just don't get all that excited about this . . .

Al is awake now.

Justin isn't all that bad - I think Al noticed. Short concise solo from Keith Urban, too.

The Nominees

I'm so underwhelmed at the list of nominees - I must be getting old. If they weren't bringing back folks like Al Green (who seems a little underwhelmed hisself right now) I might switch channels. Ooooh, HERESY!

Was Whitney High?

Or is it some kind of shyness? Or some kind of cool? Is she BACK?

You'll see me say . . .

. . . from time to time "Fabi says . . . " and I'm quoting my fabulous® Wife - who is filled with wisdom.
Just now she said "A standing O for Whitney???"

I Love Bob Dylan

. . . and I love U2, too. And it's okay with me if they do Dylan - sort of.

Hah!

As Fabi just pointed out - "It doesn't all have to be POSITIVE!"

My Bad

Here's what I said about Coldplay yesterday on Six Degrees -

"Coldplay – I checked them out on Itunes – there’s a picture of the band, the guy who’s going out with Gwyneth Paltrow – and the other three guys.".

He's actually married to Gwyneth Paltrow.

The Pros

There's a blog from the official Grammy site. Check it here.

Goooood Morning, music fans!

Arf! The 51st Grammys - I didn't get my song and video done, so I don't have tickets. :0(
Nobody's fault but mine - I scribbled out some script, I pasted together about thirty seconds of jam - but I never storyboarded the video and I never . . . . well, I never.

So here we are again - a bunch of new-to-me names among the nominees. I haven't checked the list of performers yet - I'm hoping that there's someone like Brad Paisley and his Telecaster up there this evening. He makes it look effortless.
